Jason Hoskins is a lifelong Michigander, attorney, and State Representative from Southfield.

Born and raised on Detroit’s east side, Jason is the son of two union members—his father an electrician and his mother a federal employee—who taught him the values of hard work and fairness.

Before entering public office, Jason worked for State Representative Rudy Hobbs and State Senator Jeremy Moss, and later taught at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield.

He now calls Southfield home and remains deeply rooted in the communities of Oakland County.

Meet Jason Hoskins

Legislator & Advocate for Opportunity

In recent years, Jason has led efforts in Lansing to grow Michigan’s economy, expand opportunity, and make government work for everyone. As Chair of the House Committee on Economic Development, he has advanced legislation to expand affordable housing, support small businesses, and invest in Michigan’s workforce.

Under Jason’s leadership, the Michigan Innovation Fund—a $60 million investment—was created to support underrepresented entrepreneurs and strengthen local economies across the state.

Jason has also been a leading voice for equality and fairness, helping to pass laws that expanded civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ Michiganders, banned conversion therapy for minors, and removed barriers to fertility care.

Government Service

Jason earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and law degrees in Michigan before beginning a career dedicated to public service and community advocacy.

He started his career in state government as a legislative staffer for State Representative Rudy Hobbs and State Senator Jeremy Moss, where he helped residents navigate government, advanced transparency reforms, and supported policies to strengthen Michigan communities.

In 2015, Jason was elected to the Southfield City Council, where he quickly became known for his thoughtful leadership, pragmatic approach, and ability to bring people together to solve local problems. He worked to make neighborhoods safer, create more housing options, expand economic development with projects like the Northland Mall Redevelopment.

Jason currently serves in the Michigan House of Representatives, where he chaired the House Committee on Economic Development and Small Business. In that role, he led efforts to expand affordable housing, support small businesses, and create the Michigan Innovation Fund, a $60 million investment in underrepresented entrepreneurs.

Jason also helped pass landmark civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ Michiganders, ban conversion therapy for minors, and remove barriers to fertility care, ensuring that more families across Michigan have the opportunity to thrive.

With his record of results and reputation for hard work, Jason continues to break barriers and open doors—proving that representation and steady leadership can deliver real progress for Oakland County and beyond.
